研究内容

多細胞生物の興味深い特徴として、上皮細胞は多種多様な機能を持った細胞種となるための細胞分化能と極性形成能が挙げられる。細胞が平面的にどのように成長するかが決められる現象は「平面内細胞極性」と呼ばれている。我々の研究目的はコケ植物における平面内細胞極性関与分子の同定である。我々は遺伝学、解剖学、プロテオミクス、細胞生物学的手法を駆使しており、特に細胞内区画や細胞内で起こる分子移動などの細胞内動態を可視化するレポーター分子として蛍光タンパク質を用いて研究を行っている。

Planar cell polarity in moss Physcomitrella patens

An interesting feature of multicellular organisms is the ability of their epithelial cells to undergo cellular differentiation and polarised growth (極性形成) that subsequently confers specialized cell types which perform higher order functions. The uniform polarized organization of a field of cells within the plane of a cell sheet is called “planar cell polarity (PCP)”. My research aims to identify molecular components that regulate PCP in moss. Research in our lab employs complementary methods such as genetics, anatomy, proteomics and cell biology. In particular we use fluorescent proteins as reporters to visualize cellular compartments and dynamic trafficking events that are taking place inside cells.

Fluorescent protein-tagged markers (magenta) is used to determine the subcellular localization of a novel protein (green) involves in cytokinesis. When co-localisation between 2 proteins is detected (white), the subcellular location of the novel protein could be deduced. (Teh et al., Plant Cell Physiology 54(6):838)
