The Faculty of Science consisted of the five Departments of Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Natural History Sciences and Biological Sciences. The new Graduate School of Science included the six Departments of Mathematics, Chemistry, Quantum and Condensed-Matter Physics, Cosmosciences, Natural History Sciences and Biological Sciences. Since teachers from other schools and institutes became regarded as academic members of the faculty in key chairs after this reorganization, cooperation chairs were abolished. The undergraduate programs of Earth and Planetary Materials Science and Geophysics were integrated into the Division of Earth Science. The Institute of Seismology and Volcanology was integrated into the new Faculty of Science from the former Graduate School of Science. The collaboration chair of Basic Industrial Biological Science (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology) in the Department of Biological Sciences of the former Graduate School of Science was set as a collaboration field in the Department of Biological Sciences of the new Graduate School of Science.
