1. Master’s Course

This is a 2 years full time program. Applicants must have completed 16 years of education and hold a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.

Application Period

  • Graduate School of Science: July / October
  • Graduate School of Life Science: July / September-October

Application

Application will be accepted through online for students who cannot come to Japan to take the entrance examination. Applicants will be assessed on the basis on their application documents submitted.

Semester Commencement

April / October

Fees

  • Application Fee: 30,000 yen
  • Entrance Fee: 282,000 yen
  • Tuition: 535,800 yen per year

2. Doctoral Course

This is a 3 years full time program. Applicants must have completed 16 years of education and hold a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.

Application Period

  • Graduate School of Science: July / October
  • Graduate School of Life Science: July / December

Application

3. Research Student

A research student is defined as part-time students enrolled in a course for short-term research (6 months-1 year) and not to obtain a degree. Some students use this period to prepare for entrance into a regular course (Master’s or Doctoral Course).

  • Application Fee: 9,800 yen
  • Entrance Fee: 84,600 yen
  • Tuition: 178,200 yen per 6 months
  • NOTE: the application procedure is different from the following two statuses.

  • Science field: Non-regular Student
  • Life Science field: Graduate School of Life Science

About Tuition Fees

  • At Hokkaido University, tuition is paid in two installments: May and November
  • Students who fail to pay tuition fees for two terms will not be allowed to continue.
  • Students enrolled in regular courses who experience financial difficulty while maintaining excellent academic records may apply to receive a 100%, 50%, or 25% tuition fee reduction.
