・contents of the workshop:

About service design: This workshop will introduce in a compact form the key elements, ideology and methods of service design to participants. They will learn through a concrete case and quick method experiments how service design works in practice. Service design emphasizes human scale, understanding of users, empathy and qualitative side of planning and designing in services. The aim of service design is to make services more usable, efficient and better for users as well as for service providers.

Workshop facilitators:

Essi Kuure（Junior Researcher University of Lapland）

She has worked for several years at the University on multiple service design projects, focusing on knowledge and methods of service design. She holds a master’s degree in industrial design and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of Lapland. Her research has emphasis on knowledge and methods of service design, social design, co-design, service prototyping and public services.

Hanna-Riina Vuontisjärvi（Researcher and Project Manager University of Lapland）

She has been working with service design in the areas of private and public sector: searching service models and methods that enhance user involvement, working in the field of digital economy together with Finnish software industry and organizing service design training in Europe, Asia and North America. At the moment she works in PARTY project (Participatory Development with the Youth) which aim is to use service design tools and methods to prevent youth unemployment in South Africa and Namibia.
